The couple made a public appearance together at the 50th Daytime Emmy Awards, where Povich is set to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Chung.

The event took place at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles. Povich, 84, was dressed in a classic black tuxedo, while Chung, 77, chose to wear a vibrant hot pink blazer with black pants. She completed her look with dangling earrings and a white clutch.

Before accepting his Lifetime Achievement award, Povich, whose daytime talk show Maury concluded in September 2022, took the stage to pay tribute to the evening’s Gold and Silver Circle Inductees: Vernee Watson, Al Schwartz, Christina Knack, Tanya Hart, and Patrick Weiland. The Gold and Silver Circle recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the television industry, demonstrating excellence in achievement, mentorship, leadership, and professional accomplishments over 50 or 25 years.

In 2020, the couple reflected on their romantic journey in an interview with PEOPLE, recalling their early days and the experiences that brought them to where they are today.

“In 1969, I worked as a copygirl at a small TV station in Washington, D.C. while he was a well-known personality and I was just a young girl,” Chung remembered about her initial encounter with Povich. “I would hand him the wire copy from the machine, but he was always very stern and matter-of-fact. He never made eye contact. I kept hoping that one day he would recognize me as a person. After two years there, I left to start my career, leaving him behind.”

“Several years later, after moving around the country for various jobs, I found myself in Los Angeles by 1977, where I worked as the second-in-command to Connie,” Povich explained. “Connie was the main anchor at the CBS affiliate, and I was her co-worker before they made changes. Since Connie was the only person I knew in Los Angeles, I always joked that the way to win her over was through pity first, and then love. She took pity on me when I lost my job.”

Povich and Chung dated for six years before getting married in front of 65 loved ones. They attribute their successful relationship to playful banter, open communication, and mutual support through career challenges, infertility struggles, and the adoption of their son Matthew in 1995. Povich emphasized the importance of letting go of disagreements before bed, while Chung joked about holding grudges but expressed a willingness to relive every moment.
