Parliament Winter Session 2023 Live Updates: 14 Lok Sabha MPs, Derek O’Brien suspended for the rest of consultation amid uproar

Parliament Winter Session 2023 Live Updates, Day 11: Before adjourning for the day, the Lok Sabha exceeded a decision to drop 9 greater MPs for the rest of the continued Winter Session. An overall of 15 MPs have been suspended inside the Winter Session so far. On Day 11, Opposition leaders raised slogans in opposition to the fundamental protection breach on Wednesday, in which human beings with smoke canisters entered the Lok Sabha. Leaders of the Opposition had been captured chanting slogans of ‘PM Sadan me aao, Amit Shah sharam karo’ in each house.

Meanwhile, after suspending TMC MP Derek O’Brien for the remainder of the session, the Rajya Sabha adopted a motion to refer his matter to the Committee of Privileges for his alleged misconduct amid the uproar. Rajya Sabha Chair Dhankhar called O’Brien’s behavior an ignoble misconduct and a shameful incident, adding that the TMC MP had defied the chair. Five other Congress MPs, namely T N Prathapan, Hibi Eden, Dean Kuriakose, Jothi Mani, and Ramya Haridas, were also suspended for the remaining session in Lok Sabha. Despite the warning, O’Brien and other Opposition lawmakers shouted slogans in protest in the House as the morning session began.

In Other news, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to desk the remodeled crook regulation Bills for discussion. The 3 new crook regulation Bills – the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, to update the Indian Penal Code; Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, for the Code of Criminal Procedure; and Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023, for the Indian Evidence Act, will update current laws. Shah is likewise scheduled to transport the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Second Amendment) Bill, 2023 to the Rajya Sabha for its attention and passage.
